No sexual health test is accurate in the days immediately following sexual contact. It takes a few days for the bacteria or virus to multiply within your body so that the infection reaches a detectable level. This period of time is known as the incubation period and no test is accurate until this period has passed.
The date from which tests are accurate depends on the type of test and the condition you’re testing for. Most of our tests are accurate from 14 – 28 days following exposure. Testing before the relevant accuracy date with mean your test will produce a false negative result whereby you believe you are clear, but in actual fact you have an STD. You should never test before the accuracy date unless you have clear and unmistakable symptoms.
If you have any questions about our accuracy dates please contact our customer services team on 0161 660 2599 and one of our experts will be able to help you.
