Once you’ve deposited the sample at our private sexual health clinic in Sheffield it will be sent to our laboratory for testing. It will usually be received by the laboratory the following working day for appointments before 3.30pm. When it’s received by the laboratory it will be tested against the conditions or profile that you choose when you purchase the test.
Results can take anywhere between 4 hours to 3 days to accurately establish, depending on the test that is carried out. Once we have your results we’ll contact you using your preferred contact method of telephone or email. In the event of a positive result you’ll also be offered a GP consultation where a doctor can answer any questions that you may have. We’ll also be able to provide a prescription so you can gain the appropriate medication.
No sexual health test is accurate in the days immediately after sex. The infection requires time to incubate inside your body so that the virus or bacteria multiply to a detectable level. The time that a test requires before it can give accurate results depends on the condition that you’re testing for.
Most of the tests available from Your Sexual Health have “accuracy from” dates between 14 – 28 days after exposure. That means that testing before this time will result in a false negative test whereby you believe you are clear, when in actual fact you are not. It’s important that you wait until this time has passed unless you have clear visible symptoms.
If you have any questions about our accuracy dates please contact our customer services team on 0161 660 2599 and one of our experts will be able to help you.
