How do I know which tests to have?
You may or may not have symptoms and your reasons for being tested may vary. Some people know which private STD tests they would like to have, but many will need a helping hand. Luckily we can advise you on the best tests for your needs. You can fill out our contact form or phone our team of assistants today.
How do I get my results?
Some of our STI tests can be performed instantly and results are provided at the time of your appointment.
For others, you might have to wait a few days. If this is the case, the clinic will check how you would prefer to receive your results. They can usually be given to you over the phone, in a text, in an unmarked letter or by email.
What if my results are positive for a STI?
The majority of STIs can be cured with antibiotics. Some infections, such as HIV, have no cure, but there are treatments available which have advanced greatly over the last few years.
All positive results will be forwarded to you in the way have requested. We understand positive results can be worrying so we offer a FREE telephone appointment with one of our doctors to discuss the result and answer any questions you may have.
How are tests performed?
The tests are simple to perform and will either involve you providing either a urine sample or a blood sample (taken either from a vein in the arm or a pin prick from your finger) or very occasionally a swab. Once samples are taken, they are promptly sent to our quality accredited laboratory for analysis.
Can treatment be given for a positive result?
If your results are positive for a STi we can provide you with a prescription for treatment. This can be posted out or collected from the clinic. In some instances antibiotics can be directly provided. There will be a charge for either method.
If onward referral is required as part of your management our doctor will provide advice regarding this.
Do I need to inform my partner of a positive result?
If possible, tell your sexual partner and any ex-partners so that they can get tested and treated as well. If you don’t want to do this, our clinic can usually do it for you anonymously.

Private STD testing in Edinburgh
All of our tests are laboratory tested to the highest medical standards available. We offer a wide range of tests against all common STIs, including chlamydia, gonorrhoea and HIV. Our tests are separated into two types. Our profile tests and individual tests. Profile tests allow you to diagnose multiple conditions using the same sample and are great if you want complete peace of mind. Our individual tests are great for diagnosing one condition at a time if you believe you’ve come into contact with them.
Considering how personal these conditions can be, we don’t share your information with any third parties. This means no records of your testing or diagnosis will be recorded in your NHS records.
What if my test is positive?
Once you’ve deposited your sample it will be taken to our lab for testing. Turnaround times vary, but as soon as we know your results you will be notified via either telephone or email. In the event of a positive test you will receive a free telephone consultation with one of our GPs who will discuss your symptoms and answer any questions you may have about the condition. We also offer a prescription service and should it be required we can handle your onward referral.
