FAQs

We appreciate that you may have many questions about our COVID-19 Test Kits that have been answered for you below. If you have any further questions that are not answered, simply contact our customer services team on 0161 660 2599.

We have two key types of test available:

  • PCR Swab Test
  • IgG Antibody Test

They’re both different tests that are used for different purposes.

The PCR test diagnoses whether you have COVID-19 at the time the test is taken. It detects whether the virus is present within a swab sample taken from your nose and throat.

The IgG antibody test can say whether you have previously had the virus by identifying something known as antibodies. These are created by our body when we fight off infection and they can be used to say whether a person is immune to COVID-19. The test uses a blood sample using a finger prick blood sample.

You still need to stay at home when you finish self-isolating, but you can go out for essential trips such as buying food. For up to date advice on current Government guidance visit the COVID-19 page on the NHS website.

For all positive test results, we also have an obligation to report your results to Public Health England and the NHS to ensure they maintain accurate records and statistics on the spread of the virus.

If you have a positive test for coronavirus, your response will depend on the test that you’ve taken and your current symptoms. In all cases, you should continue adhering to current government guidance on coronavirus.

In the event that a PCR test for coronavirus returns a positive result, you do not need to seek medical attention unless your symptoms worsen. If they do worsen then you should refer to NHS 111 coronavirus service.

If your test returns positive, you’ll also be offered a free GP consultation with a GP from our partner medical organisation who will answer any questions you may have about your results. They will be able to advise further on what your next steps should be.

If you take one of our antibody tests and test positive, you will still need to follow government guidance. At this stage there is no certainty over whether or not this result offers immunity, but more will become clear on this as time progresses.

For up to date advice on current Government guidance visit the COVID-19 page on the NHS website.

The turnaround time for  both COVID-19 tests is 1 day upon reaching the laboratory.

Please allow time for postage both to your home address and to the laboratory.

All tests are sent using Royal Mail 1st Class Post, which may be upgraded where necessary.

Our home coronavirus tests can be taken by anyone, but it’s worth remembering the results they give you are different depending on the test.

Our COVID-19 PCR Test diagnoses current infection and it’s useful in the following circumstances, including: –

  • If you have symptoms of COVID-19
  • If you have come into contact with someone who has COVID-19
  • If you have come into contact with someone who has symptoms of COVID-19

Our COVID-19 Antibody Test is useful for anyone who wants to know if they’ve previously had the virus, however it is only accurate from 14 days after your symptoms started.

Once we have your results they will be communicated through our online portal the very same day. You will receive an email notification when they are ready.

In the event that your results return positive you will also be offered a telephone consultation with a GP from our partner medical organisation who will provide full clinical advice and guidance. We do not offer just a test, it is very important you receive correct medical advice following a positive test.

At present, the NHS advises that the first symptoms of COVID-19 are: –

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

However, many people may only experience very mild symptoms and some may experience no symptoms at all.

No, until more is known about COVID-19 and the risk it poses to those already infected, it is important that everyone follows the government’s advice relating to how you should behave in relation to the virus. This includes if you have had a positive result and recovered or not.

You can find the most up to date guidance visit the Government Coronavirus page.

Both of our COVID-19 tests are highly accurate and safe to carry out in a medical environment. They are carried out in a UKAS Accredited laboratory and approved by Public Health England.

Independent clinical performance evaluation of the PCR test by Public Health England and the NHS showed accuracy of >98% and 100% respectively. This testing method is used for NHS testing.

Our antibody test has been shown to be 100% accurate in anyone testing 14 days after exposure in studies of COVID-19 patients in China. The ELISA method that the test uses is seen as the standard when it comes to antibody testing and is widely used in the UK.

Once you’ve ordered your test, we’ll send the sample collection kit to your home so that you can collect a sample to return to our laboratory. The kits come with everything that you need to successfully collect a sample, but it’s important that you follow instructions emailed to you prior to delivery.

This PCR test uses a nasopharyngeal swab to collect a sample. This involves a sample being collected from the back of the throat, avoiding the tongue, before taking a sample from the nasal cavity at the back of the nose.

Our COVID-19 Antibody test uses a finger prick blood sample. This involves making a small prick on the end of one of your fingers and allowing the blood to drip into a vial. Although it sounds painful, the process takes around 15 minutes and once it’s completed the bleeding will stop within minutes and the cut made will heal immediately. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s important you follow instructions to ensure the sample is usable.

For more advice on how to collect your sample contact our team on 0161 660 2599.

As an STD testing provider we are in a position to be able to access a number of medical tests through our partner laboratories which includes these coronavirus tests.

All tests are carefully vetted by our medical experts before we choose to sell them on our website.

The lab that all samples are sent to for testing is a reputable UKAS accredited British Laboratory which operates to the highest standards. For more information contact us on 0161 660 2599 or by emailing info@yoursexualhealth.co.uk.
