Who Should Take This Test?
The Essential Profile is ideal for anyone who wants peace of mind testing following a one night stand but doesn’t want to wait the full 28 days that many of our other tests require. It requires you to diagnose the three most common STDs from 14 days following exposure.
How is The Basic STD Test Carried Out?
The test is carried out using a blood sample and a standard urine sample. When you arrive at your appointment medical staff will offer you advice on how to take your urine sample, before taking your blood sample. You will be guided through each step by one of our friendly nurse practitioners.
How Long Do Results From STD Testing Take?
This test has a two day turnaround time for you to receive your results after it is received by the laboratory. All samples are sent to the laboratory using either First Class Royal Mail post or by courier. If you are looking for STD tests with instant results, view our Instant Testing range, which are available at some select clinics.
How Long After Exposure Should I Take This Test?
This test offers accurate results from 14 days following potential exposure. If you take this test before this period has passed there is a high probability it will not be accurate. This can result in false negatives, whereby you believe you are clear, but you have the condition. If you are interested in finding out about false STD results, you may benefit from reading our recent blog post, where we discuss why inaccurate results happen and the steps you can take to avoid them.
Should I Take This Test?
This test is for anyone who is concerned about an STD following a one night stand and doesn’t want to wait the full 28 days for the more complete testing packages. It’s recommended that you complete a more comprehensive test on a regular basis in addition to this one to get a full picture of your sexual health. If you are unsure about which test to choose, please contact our customer services team.

1. Booking Your Basic STD Test
To book this test, simply press the ‘Book Now’ button above. You’ll then be taken to our booking page where you can choose the best clinic for your needs. All of our clinics are easily accessible either via main roads or public transport.
2. Your Testing Appointment
You won’t need to worry about anyone knowing you are there for a sexual health screening, as our clinics are mostly general health clinics. Once you arrive, simply let the receptionist know who you are, and there will only be a short wait until you are greeted by one of our friendly nurses.
3. Collecting the Blood Sample
The Essential Profile test requires a blood and urine sample. The blood sample is collected by a trained nurse or doctor. They’ll take care of you and ensure you’re comfortable, but it will require the use of a needle.
4. Collecting the Urine Sample
The urine sample will be collected by you in a clinic toilet. The nurse or doctor will provide you with full instructions before you deposit the sample. For the test to be fully accurate you must catch the first stream of urine.
6. Receiving Your Test Results
Once you’ve deposited your sample, we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll notify you of your results using our online portal as soon as they’re reported by the laboratory. Following a positive result, you will get access to a GP who can prescribe the best treatment and offer expert sexual health advice.
